Vegetable Farming
Farming is at the heart of what we do.
We grow various culturally appropriate fruits and vegetables in both our communal gardens to serve our diverse community of Thorncliffe Park. Many of these plants are not available at local grocery stores, and we are proud to grow and share these varieties with residents. We currently average 3,000 pounds of fresh and organic produce each season that is distributed amongst our volunteers and community members for free.
Alongside growing staple vegetables of potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, zucchinis, and garlic, you will find a range of favourites representing many ethnicities evident in our community. We grow cilantro, holy basil (tulsi), red amaranth, rapini, callaloo, mulukhiyah, hot peppers, calabash (lauki), bitter melon (karela), and wax gourd. We have previously grown 18 different microgreens.
Come join us gardening and take home fresh produce grown by you!
53 TPD Garden and 71 TPD Garden are open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. from April to October.
